Review velocity target (worksheet formula)
Paste your Google Business Profile review count and up to five competitors’ counts. MapGap takes the median of the competitor counts you entered, measures the gap to your total, and suggests a 30-day review pace to close that gap in about 90 days. Paste-in only — not a Google ranking guarantee, and MapGap never scrapes Maps.
What you paste
- Your total review count (optional: reviews in the last 30 days for a pace comparison).
- Review counts for up to five competitors you already see in local results.
- Run the worksheet in your browser. Comparison is client-side from the numbers you typed.
The formula (from the product)
target_reviews_per_30_days = max(0, ceil((median_competitor_reviews − your_reviews) / 3))
- Median is computed only from competitors that have a review count entered.
- Gap is
max(0, median − your_reviews).
- Dividing by 3 spreads closing that gap over ~90 days (three 30-day periods) at a steady pace.
ceil rounds up so a fractional month still shows a whole-number target; max(0, …) never suggests a negative pace if you are already at or above the median.
Assumptions (shown in the app)
- Median is computed from competitors that have a review count entered.
- Gap is closed over ~90 days (three 30-day periods) at a steady pace.
- This is a worksheet estimate from numbers you typed — not a Google ranking guarantee.
If you omit your review count, the app still shows the competitor median and asks you to enter yours for a personal gap and 30-day target. If no competitor review counts are entered, it asks for at least one.
Recent 30-day pace comparison
If you also enter how many reviews you received in the last 30 days, the worksheet compares that pace to the target:
- If your recent pace already meets or beats the target: it says so and suggests keeping quality replies going.
- If you are behind: it states your pace, the target, and about how many more reviews per month would match the median in ~90 days.
- If you logged a recent pace but have no target yet: it asks you to add competitor review totals.
